FRUITION

We surely were in a fix,

At dinner we felt quite squeezed,

At our teeny counter we'd sit

Without room for all four knees.

As 3 years stretched into 4,

As we cooked in our little kitchen,

With a view you could die for - 

MORE became our religion!

Finally, we got up our nerve

To try creative construction,

We wanted a Wright look with verve,

A sleek, unfussy production.

We needed a pro with taste,

A sophisticated eye,

So, which architect for our place?

Cecil Baker's the only guy!

In tandem with Chris, he advised,

Leading us with a gentle hand,

We learned less is more, no surprise,

Straight lines are simply grand.

Running to 11th and Walnut,

Pouring over the specs,

We figured out details, all but

Who would build this new annex?

We interviewed high and low,

But were wowed by Arthur's book

After which we grew to know

FOSTER-WILLSON had The Look.

Baker / Willson: what a pair,

For 6 months, part of our life,

But through all the hours we shared,

There was nary a sign of strife.

Okay, Cecil was somewhat on edge

As we picked our backsplash and pulls,

"Keep it simple" his mantra, his pledge,

With which we abided, in full!

Okay, we drove Chris to distraction:

Which countertop? Which floor?

He tolerated our inaction

With kind stoicism galore.

These gentlemen and Mike, as well,

Gave us their best, not one blunder,

The new addition's simply swell,

This sunlit space is a wonder!!
